2022 – Create Vision & Intention
02/01/22 | 4m Read
Well 2022… you’re here. And while I tried to lower my expectations and meet you one day at a time, I have to say, you have made me mighty nervous.
There’s the pandemic, of course, which is old new news, and also continuously morphing in fairly disruptive ways.
There’s the return to school, which is an offshoot of covid complications and difficult in 50 ways of its own.
There’s our country, which feels all fractured and dysfunctional – ongoing surely – but somehow lately, more acute.
There’s our systems and structures all cattywampus and favoring those who already have plenty. Not freshly broken, but still overwhelmingly distorted.
There’s my beloved children barreling through childhood, in all ways glorious and grinding. There is so much gratitude and also plenty of need for grace.
There’s my partnership and its balance disrupted by nearly 5 years of chaos and upheaval.
And there’s me, trying to process and adapt, survive and thrive with all these forces pressing down from all my parts.
In my heart, I feel why I want to heal and grow, challenge myself and create.
In my body, I know what I want to build and balance, share and serve.
But in my brain, I get all tripped up on patterns and exhaustion, comparisons and the need for my own preservation.
Pause & Practice
When I feel most uneasy, I try to –
Slow with 5 breaths and pause to give thanks.
Sit and write. Strap on sneakers to go out for to walk.
Reach for connection and Put down my phone.
And also – this time – I give myself permission to create something beautiful, something inspiring, something that captures me and my hopes for life moving forward.
It was fun and freeing to get out of my head and into my spirit.
Can you carve out some time to create your vision and intention for 2022? Might you want to jot down some prose on the matter, or doddle a sensation you want to feel? Could you draft up a new definition of success that feels simple and speedy and sustainable? Can you pause for 15 minutes to start a relentless practice of self care rooted in discipline and connection?
